There was a very disappointing
turnout, and hugely embarrassing and unfair to the fishery who had
to cancel boats at the last minute. Members are urged to give the
Outings organiser Rosemary good notice of any change of their plans.
Those that set out had a nice day,
warmly welcomed by the staff at Draycote and the conditions looked
good. However we were warned that the fishing would ‘sort the men
from the boys’!
The results were
- Keith Prowting 5 fish for 13lb 7oz, including the heaviest on the
day of 3lb 11oz; Kevin Saxton 4 fish for 10lb; and Tom Morton 3 fish
for 7lb 11 oz. Rosemary had a bad day at the office, blanking and
losing what fish she had on!
Her excuse is that her mind was at Wimbledon, knowing that she was
missing one of the best Men’s Finals in history! When the outings
were planned at the beginning of the year this was mentioned but
everyone wished to fish on the 6th, not 13th July, and she
only went to Draycote to make up the numbers.
The best method
was a Di 3 sweep with Montaddy, Heineken or Cut Throat Cat in the
case of Keith and a Heineken for Kevin, and they stayed in Toft
Shallows all day. Tom caught on a black and green Booby and one on a
black Buzzer on a Di 3 sweep and a floater. Tom and Rosemary explored
the reservoir more and found fish in several places but did not
manage to tempt too many.
Other people
fishing on the day reported success with a Booby on a sinker and a
Damsel on a floater. Tim from Kirby FFC did well on a Minkie just off
the Boils.
