At Colwick Fly fishers there are one or two parents/guardians who are with one of our juniors but who themselves dont fish but maybe would like to. Although the taster days exist [only two though] it might be fruitful to arrange some sort of visit to encourage their development alongside their youngster; this might be possible via a club or maybe lodge person who is experienced.I'm sure a bit of gear could be found. This should be affordable initially as times are tight and junior with parent could become valuable regular customers anyway, should be worth the time spent. Maybe a "family" ticket to cover the above?
I've probably not put the above very well - there are tickets on various waters allowing a junior to fish on an adult ticket [free]. What I think's needed though is the junior and their non fishing but interested parent present with an experienced adult [club/lodge] with a view to bringing them both on all on one reasonably priced ticket. This could be arranged case by case maybe between club/lodge. End result could be parent/junior both fishing after several learning visits and then buying individual tickets afterwards to the benefit of the lake. A junior is more likely to thrive with a parent who fishes also. It needs a bit more than just a taster day.
The Colwick Club's concensus is that Troutmaster status is very important to the marketing of the lake and its usage; if the current application for this year has not yet been made, as we believe is the case, then this surely needs completing as a matter of some urgency. The assumption is that the procedure is a fairly quick one [form to fill and send?] so should be no problem?

Cormorant notes [part STA sponsored]are included within the AT page below
ReplyDeleteJuniors to 16 can fish free alongside an adult and share the bag now. Worth considering pricing arrangement. Add to questions for J.Simpson?
