Went down this morning, had the lake to myself. Caught 6 on my version of the Wufta, went catch & release and had 3 more on the Montady variant. (new version)
Jed reports [ 2nd April]: catches to 17no off peninsula; fish being caught with lake nearly iced over; Black and green with some movement from Maribou working, also orange blobs; some caught on buzzers and small naturals; fish appear to be holding deep until midday/early pm, moving up in water if temperature goes up; successful anglers have moved on if not catching quickly; Daiwyl bach have caught some; no brave souls taking to boats yet in the NE winds; North Lodge bank not producing yet although has been given a go; Popular ticket is the 2 fish plus C & R; Log has been welcomed so please keep adding comments, thank you.
Went down this morning, blowing a gale (Westerly) I fished the south bank near to sluice gates. Caught 5 in total, 2 on Sunburst blob and 3 on the Montady variant, all on intermediate line.
Great morning Sunday had 6 two over 4lb caught on Diawl bach, sest were caught on the new version montaddy, looks like this fly is going to be a winner.
Stocked again today, Monday 29th, with 306 fish average 3lb 4oz. Tube competition Saturday went very well with top 6 fish bag of 15lb+ and best fish of 51/2lb. Seems to suggest fish are moving away from banks and beginning to take advantage of big buzzers now coming off all over. Not much from top of the water and varying dfay to day from good to very difficult to find fish. More falling to buzzers & naturals than recently as might be expected. Time to take to the boats?
Excellent fishing today 6/4/14 I had 16 and lost several more. Top fly was a nomad and a small damsel on the dropper. Fast glass line proved to be the best line for me on the day
Had 14 in buzzer bay 2day in a boat casting towards the bank. floating line black nomad on the point black buzzer & a olive buzzer thay liked the black buzzer the most..
Excellent 2 hours this morning, 6 trout up to alb 8oz, fishing on midge tip with Montady on point and crisp packet buzzers. Would have stayed longer but heavy rain put pay to that. North point just above buzzer bay
fished colwick satday 26/4 fished its head off fished from a boat top end marina bank.15 fish floating line buzzers.16 float tubbers in a match all catching .how did keith win the blithfield match on sunday by 1oz i wonderd were them rolo's went lol
Took 34 on that new line today Kezz - a fair test! Shoots well, lays straight, floats high and little / no stretch when hooking up at distance. Seemed to tangle more than 40+ line - a little thinner maybe? There are fish spreading now - boom area worth a go and perhaps buzzers in Buzzer Bay. I'm working this weekend and Monday and then off for a fortnight. Chew and Blagdon for the first time. Wish me luck, think I'll need it on big waters I don'y know.
What's a McDonald 'boxer'? The mind boggles! You are absolutely right of course. I thought that myself as I untangled from bag buckles for the umpteenth time. Why not just move the bag?? I'd have further to reach for my food, coffee, etc.........
I have been very remiss not to report what fab fishing it has been from early season. Yesterday I had a Jack and son Thomas to help plus Angus who started on our junior days last year, Thomas had to learn to cast first. unexpected he caught his first ever trout of the roadside on a traffic light Buzzer. We then moved and Jack had a couple a gold head PTN and Angus his first fish this year also a PTN. Great sport for beginners!
leave your lure box at home & fish buzzers the takes are electric with a gold head buzzer on the point to anchor it down with sun being out the Hot Spot UV Olive Buzzer i copied from flash attack flies was doing the business (picture of it comeing soon) .......
Try again. Did poorly on Chew and Blagdon. Makes you really appreciate the great place we have in Colwick. Had 12 this pm. 2 rods up - 1 washing line and 1 floater with nymphs. Cracking takes with fish on or very near the top even though there were not loads showing. Solid connects on figure 8, stripped or twitched to buzzer, daiwl bach, nymph and claret hopper. Do try a washing line if the cloud is over as they were fabulously visible takes some quite explosive. Great fun to be had.
Permit holders up to 51. So many thanks to all who have 'spread the word'. It is working folks. Club membership is up too, with some very enthusiastic novices among the new members. Let's all make sure we support them through this season as best we can. Thinking of a 'friendly' novice new member catch & release competition on Colwick with new folks paired with existing members? Informal, no pressure, fun day. Any volunteers?
satday was a good day for fishing the washing line fishing suspender buzzer on the point & crunchers on the droppers in a boat between the rocks.12 to the boat..... i useley fish a derby water on a sunday but could not resist another day at colwick but it was a different day the sun was out,i had to fish deep with a gold head quill buzzer 8 to the boat to day....
Hi all, if any body is reading this lol, me & jed fished colwick sunday 17/4/16 fishing buzzers in the morning, keeping them on was the art, in the end when ide dropped jed of about 1.30 we caught one each, then i went back out with my competition head on & the big guns came out di3sweep line with a biscuit blob & a montaddy (kieth) the fish came thick & fast & but still loseing them, when ide finnished fishing about 4.30 i was on 10 but you had to fish for them........kezz
I fished Sunday afternoon for a couple of hours off the bank at the back of buzzer Bay, it was a cold wind and no fish were showing after starting with a floating line and no luck I switched to a di3 sweep and started to get into them, as the wind died down the fish started to show and I carried on catching on a Sunburst blob.
