After a night of
heavy rain (15mm measured before I set out for our Junior Day) we
were greeted with a most unkind east wind which does not augur well
for the fishing and limits fishing on the bank.
Undeterred our
youngsters tied flies and had some casting tuition on the grass
during the morning.
Here we saw some
lovely casting by some who have been before and the two girls who
came were paying a lot of attention to coach Mick Huffer and doing
well. It paid off!
As always a lovely
BBQ, thanks Bob and to those who helped dish the food out. Well fed
and a nice rest we moved about looking for the easier places to fish.
The Lads opted to stay on the roadside bank after trying off one of
the points. Rosemary carted the girls off to Buzzer Bay where it was
sheltered, however half an hour there and no fish they moved on round
the lake.
Encouraged by
another fisherman who was fishing Buzzers and thrilled with his 7 to
that point we set to with Buzzers. Evelyn’s Grandad fished on the
basis if he got into a fish one of the girls should play it, this
duly happened with an olive Buzzer doing the business on the top
dropper and Kayleigh landed the fish. A first for her! Blow me when
all our backs were turned there was a squeal of excitement and she
had hooked into a fish, her fist ever trout which she went onto land.
Great fishing Kayleigh! A weighted black Buzzer this time.
Evelyn’s turn and
she landed a fish of approximately 3lbs which was safely returned to
the water.
By now the wind had
got much colder and we called it a day to walk back to see how the
rest were doing. Struggling! It gives me great pleasure to say well
done the ladies!! Look forward to seeing most of you again on the 4th
June. (There are still a couple of places should anyone else wish to
book in for this day)
As always thanks to
all who helped putting the tent up, serving lunch, guiding youngsters
on the lake and Colwick Country Park for allowing us to use their
lake.
