An excellent evening
was enjoyed at our annual Xmas Dinner held at The Vale Social Club on
Dec 9th.
It was really a good
turnout with over 40 Members and family.
We had a speaker
with a difference this year, Denis our outgoing secretary’s wife
Joy came to read us some of her most entertaining poems. She had even
written one for us Fly Fishers even though she has virtually no
knowledge of flyfishing!
Fly Fishing!
I thought I’d
write you a poem,
Using the names of
some of your flies.
But, when I googled
fly ties,
There were so many I
couldn’t believe my eyes!
There’s a massive
industry out there
Selling you all
kinds of fly-tying stuff!
Hooks, feathers,
floss, fur, yarns,
Threads, tinsel,
hair, and bits of shiny fluff!
So many types and
styles of lures,
I hardly know where
to begin…
What would I
recommend to use for fishing
Or competions to
win?
Damsels, Spinners,
Tricos, and midges.
Dry flies, Wet
flies, Soft hackles, and Streamers!
Emmergers, Nymphs,
Terrestials, Bucktails.
Perfect flies for
fishing dreamers.
You could try a
Black cruncher?
Or maybe a silver
head Zonker?
Some fishermen
recommend a Hot spot buzzer
If it’s trout you
are wanting to conquer!
I read that a killer
Nomad is popular.
A great
fish-catching predictor!
But, if you want to
be sure of bagging up…
Why not try a Silver
Invicta?
Panfish Flies,
Saltwater Flies, Pike Flies,
Bass Flies, Bugs and
Poppers.
If you use some of
these flies.
You’ll be sure to
be catching whoppers.
Now, I bet some of
you have been
Fly fishing for
years,
From when you were a
small lass or laddie.
But I am told the
best fly of all…
On good
authority…that the Montaddy is the Daddy
So, when you’ve
landed your fish,
Unless you’re on
catch and release.
Please despatch them
quickly,
When you introduce
them to your Priest.
I wonder if you eat
all that you catch?
Creating lots of
tasty Omega 3 dishes.
Or are you a bit
like us?
With a freezer full
of dead little fishes?

Denis then presented prizes to
winners of matches, Keith our Chairman was overall winner just ahead
of John Parnham on points. It was really exciting to have one of our
promising juniors, Angus win one of our matches and what is more he
came away with a medal for the biggest fish overall.
Congratulations
to those and others, Susie for organising the dinner this year along
with a super raffle to which many people had contributed most
gererously.
A Merry Christmas to all and tight
lines for 2016. CFFC
