Summer at last! No howling gale; the best day we have had for a long time for a junior day and one of the best this year to date. A joy to be out.
12 Youngsters attended and as usual were well coached in the safety aspects of fly fishing and how to cast by Mick Huffer and his team. They all had a chance at fly tying - a black and green tadpole which , it was thought, would be successful on the day.
Well sustained by Bob Turpin's delicious BBQ we were ready to put everything into practice on the water during the afternoon.
I had been informed at the Lodge that fishing had been hard the day before with not many caught and this was proving so again; Kezz, a regular at colwick who was out all the time we were only managed 3 the whole day - not good by his standards.
We were therefore thrilled that two juniors landed fish and, yes, they both caught on flies they had tied earlier which increased the thrill. Congrats to Harry Pritchard and William Peake. It was really great to see the improvement in the casting ability of some who have attended before. And newcomers - do not get dispirited. Like learning to ride a bike it will come.
Some of the others had pulls so briefly experienced the slight feel of a fish. Hopefully this has whetted their appetites to have another go and Tight Lines for next time.
These days would not happen without the time and effort given by kind volunteers to whom a big thankyou.
Apologies for late entry
