Colwick Fly fishing Club at Colwick Sunday 19th October 2014

It was a blustery day -to say the least - for our final Club Outing of the season.
However we had a really good turn out with new member Susie, junior Michael, Alan on the bank, and great to see Norman too if only for the morning and Roy’s guest.

Jed was having his second go with the club and trying to perfect his fishing with a Di 5 and blobs and in the end with Paul’s killer Wufta. Thanks (I gather!) to much goading from Paul Jed landed 6 fish to finish overall 4th. He will never live it down, having deserted his nymph fishing, and much better than the blank last year when he was too proud to take Rosemary’s advice and continued with his nymphs and dries!

Paul used the same flies, showing Jed how to do it and even offering him his rod and set up when he had landed his 6. Rosemary thought she had the biggest fish at 2lb 8oz until, last to weigh in, Tom had a great bag weighing in at 10lb 12oz –with his heaviest being 2lb 10oz. Yet again he beat us all by using a Di 7 with a Sunburst Booby on the point and an orange fab on the dropper.

John Parnham fished a Di 7 most of the time with either a Tube or a Booby, and Kezz started in Buzzer Bay and was first to bag up with 6 fish, all taken on a Black Nomad on a floater. Keith, who fished with Kezz, was getting upset not catching until past 11.00am on his usual Montaddy which he continued with all day, using a Di 3 to start with and switching later to a Di 5. He claimed his last fish shortly before finishing time.

Alan fished from the bank and took a creditable 5 weighing 8lb 6oz. Many who bagged up earlier went on to release quite a few more. Susie reported losing a few and Michael sadly lost a nice fish. It happens to us all, and practise makes perfect. Perseverance is the key! A shame the weather was not kind, as the Lake had been fishing really well, using nymphs just sub surface during the week.
It was great to see all the boats out at Colwick today, thanks to CFFC Club Members turning out in force. Several other fishermen were on the bank getting their fresh air if nothing else in the gale. But having said that, I believe all bank anglers caught quite well including a Pike of around 18lb which was carefully returned. This will certainly whet the appetite for those participating in the Pike weekends coming up, the first being next weekend 25/26 Oct.

Results were very close with only ounces separating most of us, apart from Tom.
Tom Morton 6 fish 10lb 12oz - heaviest fish 2lb 10oz
Kezz Saxton 6 fish 8lb 9oz
Paul Leivers 6 fish 8lb 8oz
Jed Savage 6 fish 8lb 7oz
Alan Fisher 5 fish 8lb 6oz
Rosemary Gunn 5 fish 8lb 4oz
John Parnham 6 fish 8lb 2oz
Keith Prowting 6 fish 7lb 12oz
