A magnificent 5lb 2 oz rainbow

CFFC at Colwick Sunday 20th October
It was the Club’s last outing of the season. I guess most of us expected to work hard for our fish as Colwick has not been easy, although a comment in the book by someone who had fished yesterday said “easy”!  The weather was kind for the time of year and the rain stayed off to the end of the day. What more could we ask for?
Well the fish played ball for some of us, the majority being caught off Marina Bank and out towards the Island. A couple of fish were taken in Buzzer Bay and some off the roadside near the jetty.
The winner was myself and it was a great thrill to win my first ever match at Colwick! I fished a Di 3 sweep with a slight variation of a Cut Throat Cat (tied by Keith) on the point, a black Cruncher on the middle dropper and a two tone blob on the top dropper. I had 6 fish by 1pm, two on the Cruncher, one on the Blob, and three on the Cat. (Big TKU Keith!)   A further fish on the Cat was released.  The Bag weight of 14lb 3oz included the heaviest fish of the day at 5lb 1oz. and I was in by 3pm for a cuppa. Thanks Phil!

Tom was second with 6 fish for 13lb 9oz having fished a floater with a long leader,  Diawl Bachs, the point having a tungsten bead to help it on its way down.
Keith came third with 5 fish for 9lb 10oz having fished with a Di 3 and a Di 5. I think he took one on the Cat.
The fish really fought well giving us a good run for our money and it was great to see far fewer Cormorants today. The Staff have made a super job of covering the rocks they perch on with netting - so well done, thank you and much appreciated.
Colwick remains open until 1st January with no extra charge to season permit holders and a reduced ticket price for day tickets.
