John bags 5 on the boils with tube fly |
For our last outing of the season we had a lovely crisp morning and a most beautiful day from a scenic point of view at Rutland. Ten of us fished with varying results.
Paul and John M did best overall, fishing hard on the boils with tube flies, Paul taking 4 and John 5 good fish. Keith also had 4, fishing a Di5 with a montaddy and a Sean Dickie; 1 was taken drifting down between the three trees and the draw off tower in the North arm, 2 in the Burghley reach area and 1 in Barnsdale creek.
Rosemary in the same boat had 1 in Burghley reach on small cats minkie and 1 in Barnsdale on a cruncher, both on a midge tip line. Everyone else were mainly fishing sinking lines drifting, other than Tom and Allan who anckored in various places in the South arm.
This was not a favoured place to be as there seemed to be no fish there. Several boats were seen to be in the north arm and up at the dam at the end of the day, but I do not know how they fared.
When lucky enough to catch there were some cracking silver fish fighting really well.
Well done to John M on winning plus having the heaviest fish. He has not been able to fish much this season and rumour has it he kept his fish in the boat all day!
